Search engine optimization is the act of placing keyword rich articles on a headline news website in order to attract the three major search engines – Google, MSN and Yahoo! – which send out “feelers” in order to find the keywords or keyword phrases on the websites and then rank the website according to a special formula.  Keywords or keyword phrases are the words that potential customers place in the search boxes on the search engines in order to find what they need or what they want. Having a high ranking on the search engines is beneficial for a headline news company because every news website is also vying for a top spot on the search engine webpages because search engine optimization is free and automatic to every website on the Internet.

Another way a headline news website could increase their income would be to align themselves with another website in a link exchange so that both websites benefit from increased customer databases in addition to helping raise their ranking on the major search engines.   For example, a headline news website could participate in a link exchange with a wedding website in which the headline news website is featured on the wedding website and the weddings website is featured on the headline news websites.  Link exchanges do not cost either company any money and bring in more customers to both websites in addition to increasing both websites search engine rankings.

By offering several different options, a headline news website or health news website could reach more customers and therefore increase their search engine ranking in addition to increasing their revenue.   Customers are always more satisfied when they have more options to choose from and will come to your website over the competition, given the fact that you have more options for them.
