Burn Candles for Good Luck, Ceremonial Reasons, Ambiance and Light

scented candlesThere are many special occasions in which candles would be appropriate for gifts or as part of the ceremony. A baby’s baptism needs candles as part of the ceremony and in celebration of life ever lasting in the Christian faith. A wedding would also use candles as part of a Christian ceremony although a non-church style marriage celebration would also be able to use candles as part of the ceremony, especially at dusk when the sun is going down.

For most ceremonies, tapered candles, the long thin ones are used because they can be placed in candle holders and some of them also have decorative carvings down the sides or on the front of the candle which adds to the beauty of the ceremony and décor.

Scented jar candles make lovely gifts for the women in your life. They would be great as a birthday gift, anniversary gift, get well gift or a house warming gift. Scented candles come in a wide variety of flavors from fruits and vegetable scents to bubblegum and flowers. There are even scents of flowers and other food products like baked apple pie, chocolate rum cake, cookies and cream, hazelnut coffee and pineapple upside-down cake, just to name a few of the hundreds of scents available in most candle shops or gift stores.

Many women like to place scented candles around the bathtub before they plunge into a nice relaxing bath. The candles help to take away their stress and make the room feel light and ‘airy’ while they soak and revel in the ‘me’ time most women get so little of these days.

It may be an old wives-tale but it is said to be bad luck to have a candle with a new wick or unburned in the house when visitors come calling. You don’t have to have a candle burning when company comes, although it would be nice, it only states that it is bad luck to have an unburned candle, new candle or unused candle in the house when company comes over. The tale does not specify who will have the bad luck, however.
